Lovely Mary was the Rose of Tralee - she was beautiful and caught the attention of a young man who admired her greatly. Unfortunately death took it's toll on the relationship.

The Rose Of Tralee

C                                         F                        C
The pale moon was rising above the green mountain,
                                        D7                   G7
The sun was declining beneath the blue sea;
             C                                         F                  C
When I strayed with my love to the pure crystal fountain,
        F                     C            G              C
That stands in the beautiful Vale of Tralee.

               Am                               E
She was lovely and fair as the rose of the summer,
       Am                                                       G7
Yet 'twas not her beauty alone that won me;
      C                                        F               C
Oh no, 'twas the truth in her eyes ever dawning,
        F                      C               G               C
That made me love Mary, the Rose of Tralee.

       C                                           F                   C
The cool shades of evening their mantle were spreading
                                      D7              G7
And Mary all smiling sat listening to me;
        C                                          F                       C
The moon through the valley her pale rays were shining
          F               C                  G               C
When I won the heart of the Rose of Tralee.
               Am                               E
She was lovely and fair as the rose of the summer,
       Am                                                       G7
Yet 'twas not her beauty alone that won me;
      C                                        F               C
Oh no, 'twas the truth in her eyes ever dawning,
        F                      C               G               C
That made me love Mary, the Rose of Tralee.

C                                             F                   C
On the far fields of India, mid war's bloody thunder,
                                             D7            G7
Her voice was a solace and comfort to me,
             C                                  F                     C
But the cold hand of death has now torn us asunder
       F           C                 G               C
I'm lonely tonight for my Rose of Tralee.

               Am                               E
She was lovely and fair as the rose of the summer,
       Am                                                       G7
Yet 'twas not her beauty alone that won me;
      C                                        F               C
Oh no, 'twas the truth in her eyes ever dawning,
        F                      C               G               C
That made me love Mary, the Rose of Tralee.
