"The Kerry Dance" was written by James L. Molloy in 1879, but this first verse musically might have been written in 1790 and attributed to Margaret Casson of London. The dance is known since at least 1549. It was originally called the Rinnce Fada prononciation =  "reenka faudha ".

Kerry Dance

CHORUS
G                              C        G
Oh, the days of the Kerry dancing
G                             A          D7
Oh, the ring of the piper's tune
G                               C             G
Oh, for one of those hours of gladness

Gone, alas, like our youth, too soon!

When the boys began to gather
D         D7          E7            A7
In the glen of a summer's night
D           D7     D         Gm
And the Kerry piper's tuning

Made us long with wild delight!

Oh, to think of it Oh, to dream of it

Fills my heart with tears!

CHORUS

Was there ever a sweeter Colleen
D         D7              E7  A7
In the dance than Eily Moore
D      D7         D           Gm
Or a prouder lad than Thady
D                  A7           D
As he boldly took the floor.

Oh, to think of it Oh, to dream of it

Lads and lasses to your places
D         D7               E7       A7
Up the middle and down again
D           D7     D           Gm
Ah, the merry hearted laughter
D                             A7         D
Ringing through the happy glen!

Fills my heart with tears!
CHORUS

Only dreaming of days gone by in my heart I hear.

When the boys began to gather
